Obituary


Panos G. Panagiotou, 95, of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, August 4th in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with his loving daughters by his side. His wife of 66 years, Asemina (Parafestas) Panagiotou passed away on June 30th of this year. He is survived by his five daughters, Martha Carr and her husband, Russ, Athena Grace Georgiadis and her husband, Petros, Patricia Papalilo and her husband, Sotir, Connie Hackenson and her husband, Robert and Liz Panagiotou and her wife, Nichole; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Rita Panagopoulos, and brother-in-law, Taso Parafestas and his wife, Georgia; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his three sisters, Konstantina, Eleni and Chrisiave.

Panos was born in Douviani, Albania the son of George and Martha Panagiotou. In 1952 he immigrated to New York, where he met the love of his life, Asemina and later moved to Worcester where they raised their five loving daughters. He was the co-owner and operator of the Howard Johnson's in West Boylston. Panos was a life long member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, the Order of A.H.E.P.A. and the Epirotic Society of Worcester. He enjoyed taking evening walks with Mena and spending time with his grandchildren and also loved his time with his friends at A.H.E.P.A.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Brookhaven Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 9th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with his funeral service at 10:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, August 8th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
