Obituary

AUBURN – Douglas M. Savoie, 73, passed away from a long illness on Monday, July 18, 2022 in Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston with family at his side.

He leaves his wife of 43 years, Claudette M. (Blanchard) Savoie; 2 daughters, Erica E. Santiago and her husband Jonathan “Jon” of Dudley, and Sara and her husband of Webster; a granddaughter, Lily Dubenetsky of Dudley; 2 sisters, Janice Griffiths and her husband Jim of Milford and Irene Knipe of Millbury; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Donald Savoie.

He was born on January 1, 1949 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, son of Achille and Elda (Surette) Savoie and moved to Millbury in his childhood. He lived in Dudley for over 30 years before moving to Auburn 7 years ago. He graduated from Millbury High School in 1967.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Savoie was a technician at General Motors in Framingham for several years. He then worked at several mills and manufacturing companies until retiring in 2011.

He was a faithful member of Oak Hill Bible Church in Oxford and of Godways International Ministry at whose services he served as a lector of Holy Scripture at their services. He had belonged to the former Faith Assembly of God in Webster where he was as an usher. He enjoyed history, especially World War II, walking and nature in general. He bowled in leagues for many years. He loved listening to “The Cars” band and watching the New York Giants football team. He most loved spending time with his only grandchild Lily.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 11:00 AM in Oak Hill Bible Church, 40 Sacarrapa Road, Oxford, followed by fellowship in the church hall. Donations in his name may be made to either Oak Hill Bible Church, 40 Sacarrappa Road, Oxford, MA 01540 or given directly to his wife Claudette at the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
