Obituary


Carol J. (Hannon) Wilkins, 88 of Chelmsford passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Newton on February 1, 1934 and was a daughter of the late Bernard J. and Catherine E. (Carr) Hannon. She was raised in Waltham, where she attended the area schools.

She resided in Waltham until she married Samuel B. Wilkins. A number of years later she relocated to the Lowell area. She was employed at Wang Labs for many years, beginning with the childcare program and then moving onto data entry with the finance department.

Carol enjoyed cooking, cake decorating, crafts, listening to all kinds of music, and watching the Boston Red Sox. In her younger days, she was a ‘Den Mother’ for Lowell Cub Scouts den 12 pack 12. Above all else, she adored time spent with her family making new memories.

Carol is survived by her six children, Barry J. Wilkins and his wife, Anne of Lowell, Nancy J. Johnson and her husband, Steven F. of The Villages, FL, Elaine J. Bernhardt and her husband, Karl of Ashby, MA, Steven J. Wilkins and his wife, Aline of The Villages, FL, Roy J. Wilkins and his wife, Donna of Maynard, MA, and Susan J. Morrow and her husband, William of Rutland, MA; her thirteen grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters in law, Margaret Hannon of Dover, NH and Susan Bernstein of Waltham; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, the late Paul Wilkins who passed away when he was 5 months old; and her siblings, the late Marjorie Ruggiero, the late Bernard Hannon, the late Peter Hannon, the late Gerald Hannon, and the late Robert Hannon.

On Sunday, July 24, 2022 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 2-6 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, 978-458-6816. Her funeral will begin on Monday morning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Rita’s Parish, 158 Mammoth Road, Lowell, MA. Burial will take place at the family plot at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham on Tuesday.
