Obituary

BUXTON- Edward Ronald Leighton left this world for heaven Sunday morning July 17, 2022. Ron was born March 30, 1946 to Fannie and Edward Leighton of Cumberland. Ron attended Greely Institute. He grew up fixing cars with his Dad & building houses, developing his carpentry skills. He also attended Wentworth & UMO when graduated, he had an engineering career at SD Warren of 35 years where he met many lifelong friends.
Ron married the love of his life, Cynthia Brown on May 6, 1972. They had 3 children, Ryan Leighton of Bowdoin ME, Luke with his wife Leya Leighton of Wells ME, & Erica with her husband Josh Milligan of Kennebunk ME. He also had 8 grandchildren Colby & Mason Leighton, Gavyn, Ariana, Calista, & Josiah Leighton, Grady & Elyse Milligan.
He is survived by his sister, Sharon with husband Joe Cabanna, brother-in-law Punky, and lots of nieces & nephews.
He joined Ari in their eternal home and we’d like to think they’re enjoying a cup of coffee & working on a heavenly project together.
Ron loved to work on projects with friends and anyone that needed help. He especially loved to work with his children and grandchildren. It was his way of sharing God’s love with others. He & Cindy committed their family to Jesus when they started attending W Buxton Church as a young family.
Ron loved spending time with family & friends. As a man who was quiet & reserved most of his life he came out of his shell in retirement! He took to heart James 1:27 – “Religion that God our father accepts as pure & faultless is this; to look after orphans & widows in their distress & to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” He had many widows that he chose to look after.
His character was shown through his work ethic. He was persistent to push through to get work done (especially to get a truck load of wood home!) Ron was always good for a friendly word & a big smile (although not in a picture).
Ron will be greatly missed by his family, extended family, and those he considered family. Each one of us will treasure the time he gifted in pouring out himself in our lives.
