Obituary

Barbara “Bobbie” Ames Crane, 83 of Salem, NH died peacefully May 12, 2006 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after a brief illness.

Born April 7, 1923 in Bristol, CT to Grace and John Ames, she was raised in Hartford, CT and moved to the Stamford area. Mrs. Crane was a graduate of the Stamford Hospital School of Nursing and worked as an operating room nurse during World War II and for many years thereafter. She married Ralph W. Crane who currently resides in Cohasset, MA. After raising her family of 3 she returned to work as an occupational health nurse at American Cyanamid of Greenwich, CT. until her retirement in 1984.

She was active within the Stamford area and was very involved with the local chapter of the Red Cross giving her time and energy organizing and attending blood drives throughout the community.

She had an interest in politics, national, and world news. She enjoyed sports, was an avid bowler, tennis player, and dancer. She also enjoyed watching professional Women’s and Men’s tennis. Her greatest pleasures were found in the company of family and friends. She enjoyed the last several years at Greystone Assisted Living in Salem, NH participating in the many activities offered there.

Her family includes 3 children: her daughter, Susan Crane Casterline, her husband Steve of Scituate, MA; and sons Ralph W. Crane, his wife Sheri of Derry, NH; and Morgan Crane of Scituate, MA. Bobbie was blessed with five grandchildren, Kaylee, William, Amanda, Emily and Brennan Crane, and many nieces and nephews and close friends.

Calling hours will be held Monday, May 14 from 4-7, followed by a funeral service at 7 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, NH. Cremation will follow.
