Obituary

Nicky Demus Patterson, III, 79, died unexpectedly in his sleep, at his residence of a myocardial infarction on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. He was born on August 10, 1942, in Wilson, North Carolina the son of the late Nicky Denus Patterson, Jr. and Jane (Yelverton) Patterson. The family moved to Hampton, NH when Major Patterson was transferred to Pease Air Force Base in 1956. Nicky graduated from Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, class of 1960, where he was a varsity catcher on the high school baseball team. After high school he received his Associates Degree in Business from Dean College in Franklin, MA and attended Boston University. Nicky has been a resident of Wayland, MA for the past 38 years and previously resided in Boston.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maureen (Sullivan) Patterson of Wayland. He was the devoted brother of Betsy Patterson Willey and her husband James M. Willey of Stratham, New Hampshire and Peggy Patterson Rogers and her husband George T. Rogers of Goode, Virginia. He was the uncle of Jared Willey, Matt Willey and Gabe and Eli Rogers.

Nicky was the founder and owner of Eastern Mass Construction and was a well accomplished General Contractor in building construction prior to retiring.

Nicky was passionate outdoorsman, and in his youth enjoyed hunting and canoeing. He also loved Bouviers', and with Maureen as his partner many of their dogs became champions. He was a 36-year member of the American Bouvier des Flanders Club and a lifelong member of the Massachusetts Audubon Society. He served as a delegate and board member of the Middlesex County Kennel Club and a board member of the Eastern Dog Club.

For decades, he spent countless hours creating and maintaining the walking trails at Heard Farm, an 80-acre conservation reserve in Wayland. Many lifetime friendships were formed on the walking trails as he shared countless evening and morning walks with his dogs and those of his many friends. Nicky never met a dog he didn't love.

Private family services have been held.
