Walter Michael Purves, 67, passed away on July 13th, 2022 at home after a brief illness. He was also very well known to many friends as Mike Landry, or the back yard mechanic. He was born on December 31st, 1954 in Weymouth, MA.
He spent most of his life as a resident of Rockland, MA and just recently moved to Whitman. Heading down the Rockland tracks to Hanover, is where he shared his first dates with his wife of 46 years, Patricia Cappoli Purves. He was the son of the late Constance M Taylor and the late Walter N. Purves. He also shared a special relationship with his step-dad the late Charles Landry.
He leaves behind two daughters, Lisa E. Wronski, and husband Ronny, of Abington: Stephanie C. Studley, and husband Butch, of Whitman. Proud Papa to Avery Lynn, Noah Austin, Addison Maeve, Shane Walter, Evan Michael and Emma Rose. Predeceased by his best buddy Schroeder, his adopted Papillon, who he loved to have by his side. Also predeceased by several brothers and sisters including the late Donna Purves Whiting of CA, the late Charlie Landry and Raymond Landry both of Rockland, MA. Survived by sisters Linda Muller of Cape Cod and Susan Landry of Rockland, MA. And many nieces, nephews and special relatives and friends.
Walter spent over 30 years working as a Welding Fabricator for Buckley’s Associates and was a member of Local 17 Sheet Metal Workers Union. He was also an avid Classic Car lover who could always be found in the garage or the driveway, tinkering or fixing something. He was the guy everyone knew could fix any car troubles they had. Walter will be missed by so many.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday July 18th from 4:00pm-7:00pm followed by a 7:00pm funeral service, at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.
