Obituary

Joseph H. Stockberger 55, of Hopedale, passed away suddenly, Saturday July 9, 2022 at Milford Regional Medical Center.

Born in Glens Falls, NY on April 12, 1967, the beloved son of Barbara A. (Cuervo) Stockberger of Hopedale and the late John C. Stockberger, he was raised and educated in Franklin.

In addition to his mother Barbara, he is survived by his daughter, Morgan Morgante, her husband Steven and his grandsons Mac and Parker of Mendon, Ma. His sister Dene Gatewood and her husband Keith of Milford, Ma. His sister Christine Luccini and her husband Derek of Hopedale, Ma. As well as nieces and nephews, Emily Gatewood, Carly Gatewood, Noah Luccini and Alex Luccini. He also leaves behind many beloved friends and cousins.

Joe cared very deeply for family, cherished his mother and was very protective of his sisters. He adored his daughter and was very proud of her accomplishments. He visibility lit up when spending time with his grandsons. He loved his nieces and nephews dearly. He was extremely proud of his two nephews and was their biggest fan on the sports field. Always encouraging them with daily texts.

Joe was an athlete at heart, having played high school and college hockey. He went on to coach hockey and had a passion for sharing his enthusiasm of the game. He frequently went out of his way to encourage and advocate for young athletes, to ensure they loved the game while focusing on being a true teammate.

All who knew Joe, and there were many, knew he had an incredible sense of humor matched by a kind heart. He could tell a story like no other, often bringing  people to tears with laughter.

He was a safe space for others during times of difficulty; whether lending a hand, celebrating a life event or wishing to be uplifted — he was there.

If there is ever a moment you would like to honor Joe’s memory, simply take a moment out of your day to make someone you care for laugh.

He will be missed beyond measure.
