Rev. Dr. Richard Larry Smith, 83, passed away July 7, 2022 at Rawlins House in Pendleton. He was born on March 19, 1939 in Logansport, the son of Donald and Mary (Bowen) Smith.
He attended Logansport High School, Taylor University, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and Bethany Theological Seminary. He married Laura Mae (Watkins) Smith on April 3, 1966 in Galveston, IN.
Rev. Dr. Smith pastored in the following churches and retired in 2001; Berwyn Methodist Church, Rock River Conference Yoked Parish of Lincoln and Otterbein Churches, Gary Glen Park EUB, Harlan United Methodist Church, Anderson Bethel United Methodist Church, Ft. Wayne Bethany United Methodist Church, Attica United Methodist Church, Anderson Noble Street United Methodist Church, South Whitley United Methodist Church, Peru Main Street United Methodist Church, Middlebury United Methodist Church, Garrett United Methodist Church, New Horizons United Methodist Church, and Rigdon United Methodist Church. He was also proud to be an active member of the Anderson Lions Club.
He is survived by his son Kevin Matthew (Leslie Denise) Smith; grandson Jacob Ryan Smith; Brothers-in law and sisters-in law, Aleta (Stanley) Holderman, Donald (Vickie) Watkins, Kathy Watkins.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Laura; his son Christopher David; brother, Daniel Smith; brother-in-law, Loyd Watkins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Anderson.
Visitation will also be held on Friday from 1-3 PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given the American Diabetes Association.
