Obituary

Raymond P. Felkel a 52-year resident of Needham died on Wednesday May 10, 2006 at the Briarwood Healthcare Center in Needham. He was 93 years old. Raymond was born and raised in Holyoke MA. Mr. Felkel attended business school in the Holyoke area. He began his career with the U.S. Army working in the procurement department at the Springfield Armory. He then went onto the Detroit Arsenal and the Boston Army base. He retired from the Boston Army Base in 1973 as the Chief District Procurator. Mr. Felkel also taught business classes for the Army. While in Detroit, Mr. Felkel was active in the Knights of Columbus. An avid golfer, he was a member of Brae Burn Country Club in Newton. Both Raymond and his wife Virginia were active participants in Curling. Mr. Felkel was also an usher at Saint Bartholomew Church for many years. The beloved husband for 65 years of Virginia (Toepfert), he was the dear father of Stephen E. Felkel of Needham, Robert W. Felkel of Kalamazoo MI and James D. Felkel of Springfield, Virginia. Brother of the late Edward Felkel. Also survived by 5 nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Monday May 15 at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bartholomew Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Monday morning from 9:00 to 9:45 AM prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers donations in Raymond’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Mass Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown MA 02472.
