Obituary

Joan L. Scott, 85 of Bedford NH went to heaven on June 20, 2022 following a brief illness and a chronic struggle with her spinal health. She was born on February 3, 1938 in Clifton Forge, VA to Garland William Lushbaugh and Carrie Christina (McCambridge) Lushbaugh.
Joan graduated from Clifton Forge High School, VA in 1956, and Stuart Circle Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, VA in 1959. She is remembered as such an incredibly caring nurse beginning her career at Maine Medical Center and then working as a Nursing Supervisor and Cardiac Care Nurse for two decades at Catholic Medical Center in NH with the founding fathers of the New England Heart Institute. Prior to retirement she finished her career working as a traveling Hospice Nurse where she found great reward in helping so many families. She felt this was the most rewarding part of her career.
Joanie was the past President of the Nashua Garden Club enjoying her love and accolades of gardens and always said our friends are like flowers, each one is unique and so important to appreciate each other this way. Over the past few months her loved ones made sure she always had fresh flowers within her reach as they brought so much joy to her. She was also a friend of Bill W’s. She believed with sobriety that all other things were possible and ultimately this was one of her greatest achievements in life. If you knew Joanie, you knew she wanted peace for all those she loved.
In 2000 Joanie married her husband Ken and they lived many years in the Outer Banks of NC before settling back in Bedford to be close to her grandchildren. She loved telling stories and tales to them with vivid details. Her favorite times were being a “Grammy” and being with friends and family. During her career she enjoyed skiing on her days off and during retirement she loved family beach days, gardening, and was an avid reader.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Doris Maupin of Covington, VA. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth B Scott, their children David & Donna Howard of Manchester, NH, Tim & Ann Guillemette of Bedford, NH, Leslie (Scott) McDougal of Midlothian VA, Kenny B Scott Jr. of Powhattan, VA, their cherished grandchildren (Matthew, Kaitlin, Hannah, Taylor, Caroline, Samantha & William), her beloved niece Becky Maupin, nephew John Maupin and her amazing caretakers Katy & Jill, whom she was so thankful for their loving care helping to keep her home until the end of her life.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St. on Wednesday June 29, 2022 from 4-6 pm to include a prayer service at 5:30 PM.
