Obituary

Margaret E. "Margie" (McLennon) Callahan, a 36 year resident of Malden and former resident of Somerville for over 20 years and longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at The Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was 81 years of age.

Margie was born in Boston on January 13, 1941, a daughter of the late Joseph McLennan and Dorothy (Kelsey) McLennan. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Wakefield High School.

Margie worked from home as a day care mom and after several years she went back to school to become a Teacher. Margie worked for Catholic Charities for 35 years as a Teacher in Early Care and Education where she was known as a Pioneer in this field of education. She had the gift of giving a brighter future to every child in her care. Margie was a strong woman who believed in families and took the extra time to support the child's whole family in her work. She was known as a trusted colleague and a thoughtful listener - one in whom anyone could and would confide. Margie was a valuable mentor to others during her years with Catholic Charities. Margie infused her work with love - love of the Catholic Charities mission and love of the children. Margie was recognized for her valuable lessons by Catholic Charities at her retirement on June 26, 2009.

In her spare time, Margie loved riding the motorcycle with her beloved husband Jim. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially those many cookouts which were so important to Margie. She loved her neighborhood in Malden and was always there with her front door open to invite anyone in for a cup of coffee or a cup of tea and if you needed an ear, a hug, a safe haven or something to eat, Margie's home was the place to be. She could always be seen walking around and chatting with her many friends and acquaintances.

Margie is the beloved wife of 46 years to the late James W. "Jim" Callahan. She is the devoted mother of Christine Callahan and her partner Edward Guenette of Tewksbury, April Callahan and her companion Brittney Haas of Revere and the late Paul McLennan, Michel Callahan and her husband Santos and baby Jimmy. She is the loving Grandma to Kristopher, Audrina and Aaron. She is the beloved sister of the late Dorothy Allwood, Joseph McLennan, Thomas McLennan and Frank McLennan. She is also the loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
