Obituary

Rosemary J. Bauer, a life-long resident of Medway, passed away at home on June 19, 2022. The daughter of Leo and Gladys Newton, she was 91 years old.

Raised in the Black Swamp section of Medway, she grew up riding ponies and taking rides in her father’s airplane. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Milford, graduating in 1949. Soon after, she met and married her husband of 51 years, William H. Bauer who passed away in 2001.

Rosemary and Bill could often be found watching their son Leo race horses at Foxboro Raceway, standing outside the riding ring of their daughter Susan’s horse shows, or holding political signs for their daughter Maryjane.

During their marriage, Rosemary and Bill traveled throughout Europe and the Caribbean, and spent years enjoying their boat, affectionately named the Posie B, located at Kingman Yacht Center in Pocasset. Most recently, she and her family became part-owners of the racehorse Bill Bauer, named in her husband’s honor.

She would often remark, “I had a wonderful life.”

Rosemary was one of the first women business owners in Medway, founding the office of Rosemary J. Bauer Real Estate in 1966. She specialized in selling historic homes and was an avid collector of antiques. She was also a former member of the Medway Finance Committee, the League of Women Voters, the Medway Historical Society, the Kingman Yacht Club, and a proud member of the Republican Party.

Rosemary will be sadly missed by her children Maryjane and husband William White of Medway, Leo Bauer and wife Nancy of Rochester, MA, and Dr. Susan Bauer, DVM, of Los Angeles, CA. Rosemary was the grandmother of Gretchen Grosky and her husband Jason of Atkinson, NH, Heidi Dennis of Medway, William White and his wife Holly of Millis, and her beloved deceased granddaughter Rebecca J. White. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Thursday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St., Medway, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Medway.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Purple Haze Standardbred Adoption Program, PO Box 253, Oxford, NY, 13830.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
