Joseph Peter "Pete" Szylkonis, Sr., 95, of Medway, died peacefully at home on Saturday, June 18, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Catherine Celia “Kay” (Hicks) Szylkonis who died in 2017.
Born in Newton on August 11, 1926, he was the son of the late Philip and Mary (Jacobs) Szylkonis.
Pete worked at Keystone Liquors in Medway for 30 years. He had a marvelous work ethic and was an incredibly hard worker. He loved cutting firewood and didn't fully retire until age 92.
Pete lived for traveling with his wife and granddaughter. They enjoyed 40+ cruises, 20+ visits to Disney World, a 28 day cruise to Australia with New Zealand being the highlight of his travels.
Pete had an incredible sense of humor and zest for life. Love for his family was most important.
He is survived by two sons, George Szylkonis of Medway and Tom Szylkonis of Goodyear, AZ, and his granddaughter Dena Szylkonis of Medway.
He was the father of the late Joseph P. Szylkonis, Jr.
Graveside services will take placed privately at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Pete’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
