Obituary

Charles Dewey “Charlie” Griner, Sr., 76, of Enigma passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2022, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Garvie Nichols, Jr. officiating. Mr. Griner will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Alapaha. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Austin Griner, Caleb Atkins, Reed Bennett, Brian Turner, Chance Tompkins and David Cole Burney will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Cooper and Danny Cooper.

Born March 9, 1946, in Tifton, Mr. Griner was the son of the late Willie Albert Griner and Mamie Luddell Gray Griner. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Davis and two brothers, Melvin Ray Griner and Henry Franklin Griner. He retired from Southern Ag and he was a member of the V.F.W. and he was a veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. Griner is survived by his companion, Linda Walker of Enigma; three sons and two daughters and their spouses, Joe and Donna Griner of Ocilla, Linda and Chad Hancock and Shannon and Gerald Sumner, all of Tifton, Randy and Angelia Davis of Moultrie and Steve and Melanie Davis of Augusta; the mother of his children, Phyllis Griner of Omega; one sister, Patsy Louise Hogan of Tifton; 16 grandchildren including, Lindsey Tompkins and her husband Chance, Ashley Bennett and her husband Reed, Austin Griner and his wife Kayla, Nicole Atkins and her husband Caleb, David Barker and his wife Cindy, Jared Barker and Juliana Sumner; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
