Obituary

– Mr. John Gillio, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 15th, 2022 at his home. John was born on October 24, 1931 a son of the late Battista and Maria Rosa (Chiala) Gillio of Piedmont, Italy.
A lifelong resident of Worcester, John was a graduate of Commerce High School . He served his country in the Army as a radio operator stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return to the States, John went on to complete his education graduating from Suffolk University.
He came back to work for over thirty years at David Clark Manufacturing in Worcester as an operational manager. John was a devoted Catholic and was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church for many years and also a congregant of St John’s Church in Worcester. He took great pride in having visited the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Holliston, Ma. 264 times. He lost his mom at the age of 16 but he was a devoted son to his Dad, Battista, being his caretaker toward the end of his life.
While he was an avid bowler, John was most happy playing his guitar. He played the Hawaiian, steel, electric and acoustic guitars. During his youth, he played with his band at local weddings and small venues. He also loved traveling to the local casino’s, Atlantic City being his favorite spot.
He is survived by his companion of twenty-two years, Dorothy Smith; two nieces, Barbara Straniero and Norine Enrione and her spouse, Jeanne Somers; four grandnieces, Donna Cioffi and her husband Rob, Amanda Gunning and her husband Sean, Amy Enrione, Eva Mitchell and her husband Michael, also he leaves three great great nieces and three great great nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to John’s visitation on Monday June 20th at FAZIO FUNERAL HOME, 9 Branch Street Worcester from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. His Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, June 21st at Immaculate Conception Church in Worcester at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
