Geraldine Gaskins Purvis, 96, of Berrien County, Georgia, died Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Magnolia Place in Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at New Griffin Baptist Church in Berrien County, Georgia, with the Rev. Ralph Griffin and the Rev. Sim Youngblood officiating. Sharon Griffin will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Mt. Paron Cemetery in Berrien County, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the church sanctuary.
Mrs. Purvis was born June 1, 1926, in Melbourne, Florida to the late Virgil Gaskins & Allie Moore Berry. She moved to Alapaha, Georgia when she was 12 years old. Mrs. Purvis worked for the Alapaha school lunchroom for 30 years and was a member of New Griffin Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son and his spouse, Raymond & Shelia Purvis of Alapaha; two grandchildren and spouses: Darin & Joy Purvis of Waterloo and Sharon & Ralph Griffin of Ocilla; eight great- grandchildren and spouses: Adrianne & Stephen Roberts, Mallory & Jeremy Thompson, Brady & Lexi Vickers, Dylan Purvis & Laylon Ivey, Gracie Griffin, Shelby Griffin, Ben Griffin and Adam Griffin; five great-great-grandchildren and one on the way. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nead Purvis; two brothers: Pete Gaskins and Elwood Harris and a sister, Ludell Van Lengan.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the caregivers at the Magnolia Place for the care of Mrs. Purvis.
