Obituary

Porter - Forrest W. Day, 89, died on June 6, 2022 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born in Limerick on March 27, 1933 a son of Linwood and Mildred (Wales) Day. He attended local schools and graduated from Limerick High School in 1953. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and later graduated from Northeastern Business College in Portland. He married Hilda Mills on February 28, 1960.

Forrest worked as an accountant for the Coca Cola Co. in South Portland for many years. He later worked for S.A.D. # 55 for many more years, mostly as a school bus driver.

He was a member of the American Legion West-Day Post in Kezar Falls (Porter) where he had been Commander and Chief twice, was a volunteer firefighter for the Kezar Falls Fire Department and had also been a Boy Scout Leader. He was a former member of the Riverside United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School, and most recently attended the East Baldwin Congregational Church.

He enjoyed vegetable gardening and chopping his own firewood. He loved playing Beano at the legion hall and was an avid Red Sox fan. Above all he loved spending time with his family. His favorite people called him Papa and Forrest was known to always have a smile on his face, which continued right up to the end at the Veteran's home.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Hilda Day, and his 3 children: Michael Day and partner Cheryl Cote of Biddeford, Merrill Day and partner Cheryl Burnham of Oxford and Mary Taylor and husband Todd of Standish. 3 grandchildren: William Cote and wife Amanda of Northborough, Mass., Ashley Farris and husband Nick of Saco and Danica Taylor of Standish, and 4 great grandchildren: Ella Cote, Claira Cote, Khloe Farris and Owen Farris.
