Mary A. Fortes, 63, of New Bedford died Saturday, June 11, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long courageous battle.
Born in Boston, daughter of Mae (Barboza) Fortes and the late Alvarino Fortes, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a graduate of Fairhaven High School.
Mary loved the simple things in life like laughing and getting together with family and friends. She loved to play volleyball and softball and loved her dog, Toby. She was also eternally grateful to her partner of 27 years, Gina, for the love and care provided to her.
She is survived by her partner, Gina Farizo; her mother, Mae Fortes; her sister, Elizabeth Sollecito and her husband Joseph; her niece, Alexandria Sollecito; and several cousins.
Her Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 11 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford, with everyone meeting directly at Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will be private.
