Obituary

Naples - Thomas B. Wescott, 78, of Naples died on June 7, 2022 at his home with loving family by his side after a long battle with liver disease. He was born in Portland, Maine on November 5, 1943 a son of Arthur and Mary (Bustin) Wescott. He attended local schools including three years at Standish High School, then graduated in the first graduating class at Bonny Eagle High School. He married Nancy E. Chute on August 20, 1966.

Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. He served at Fort Polk in Louisiana, where he was involved with very intense live fire training known as "Tigerland" for those slated to go to Vietnam. He luckily was never sent to Vietnam, but the training itself caused P.T.S.D. to many and was a very stressful time for all involved. He served in the 551st M.P. Company and also served as Guard Commander at the stockade.

As a young boy Thomas worked on the family farm known as Wescott's Plantation. He and his father and brother founded Wescott's Small Engines. He later worked for 7 years at Herman Shoe Co. in Scarborough, then for 7 more years at Clark - Aiken in Lee Mass. where they manufactured airplane parts for McDonnell Douglas. Tom went back to Wescott and Sons for several more years. His career again changed and he went to work for the Town of Cumberland, where he was groundskeeper at Val Halla Golf & Recreation, and plowed snow for the town during the winter months. For several years he worked at P & K Sand and Gravel in Naples. Finally, he returned to the golf course and retired after 15 years of total service to the Town of Cumberland.

Tom's favorite hobby was golfing. He won several tournaments over the years both individually and on teams in Maine and Mass. He played sports before and after high school and enjoyed watching his New England sports teams. He was a talented craftsman and artist and enjoyed woodworking, wood burning and tooling leather, making many belts and wallets. He was also an avid historian and especially enjoyed western and Native American history.

In his retirement he loved traveling with Nancy in their motorhome which they did for 7 years. They also both spent two years working at the Tanqueverde Ranch in Tucson, Arizona. It was the largest guest ranch in the continental U.S. He worked as a bartender and both he and Nancy enjoyed their time there.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Dana Wescott, and a granddaughter, Brittany Wescott. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Wescott of Naples. His three sons: Wade Wescott and wife Kristi of Steep Falls, Adam Wescott and wife Bethany of Baldwin and Jeremy Wescott of Naples. A brother, Peter Fernald and wife Phyllis of Vassalboro. Five grandchildren: Amber Profenno, Dylan Wescott, Seth Wescott, Carissa Wescott and Makayla Wescott. Also five great grandchildren: Brantley Riendeau, Tanner Wescott, Braxton Dunnells, Michael Wescott and Brantley Clark.
