Obituary

Daniel F. Navarro, 91, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2022. Dan was born in Los Angeles in 1931, and was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War. Dan went on to work for the County of Los Angeles for more than thirty years before moving to Ventura with his wife, Elaine, after retirement.

Dan was an accomplished writer, having interviewed movie greats, such as Fred Astaire, Fred MacMurray, June Haver among others, and he served the National Film Society as Publicity Chair for several years. Dan became a member of SAG-AFTRA and spent his retirement years appearing as an extra in television and film, regaling his family with stories about life on set. An avid cinephile, Dan also authored the book Navarro’s Silent Film Guide: A Comprehensive Look at American Silent Cinema.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Elaine, their three children, Julie Carobini (Dan), Daniel Navarro, Jr. (Darcy), and Michael Navarro (Rita). He is also survived by six grandchildren: Matthew Carobini, Angie Carobini, Emma Carobini, Enzo Navarro, Luca Navarro, and Jaxson Navarro, his brother, Mike Navarro, and many much-loved nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Maria Navarro, and his brother, Gabriel (Hap) Navarro.

Dan dearly loved being a lector at both Sacred Heart Church and Our Lady of Assumption, delivering Scripture with passion and a bit of dramatic flair. He also enjoyed speaking about his love for his Savior Jesus Christ and the promise of a future in heaven. The family wishes to thank Livingston Memorial and several caregivers who provided compassionate care to their precious husband and father.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Thursday, June 9 at Sacred Heart Church, Ventura with a Most Holy Rosary preceding Mass at 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:30 am. Burial to follow in Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard. Arrangements are under the direction of the BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY & CREMATION, Ventura.
