Dr. Herbert James Henderson Jr. - Of Marshfield, MA, died peacefully in his home on May 7, 2006, at the age of 78. He was married for 45 years to the late Jane (Thompson) Henderson, and is survived by his sister Constance Briggs of Marshfield, MA, his children Gretchen Denum of Sugar Land, TX, Joan Henderson of Oklahoma City, OK, Bruce Henderson of New York, NY, Alissa Treamer of Durham, NC, their spouses and five grandchildren Sam, Stuart, Susan, Phoebe and Katherine. Professor Henderson spent nearly 30 years teaching Colonial and Revolutionary American History before retiring in 1988. He held a tenured position at Oklahoma State University, taught at the University of Maine between 1963-1966, and was a Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia in 1974-1975. His distinguished career included the publication of Party Politics in the Continental Congress (McGraw-Hill, 1974), and numerous scholarly articles. Dr. Henderson served his country during the Korean conflict in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command, achieving a rank of Second Lieutenant. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the UN Service Medal for his contributions to that effort.
A Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 10 at 1:00 pm in the Trinity Episcopal Church on Highland St Marshfield.
