Obituary

Nicholas “Nick” R. Martel, 32, of Woonsocket, RI died Saturday May 28, 2022 at home.

To Nick Martel, the words “I’m going fishing” were his way of taking a break from the hectic whirlwind of life and enjoying the world around him. For Nick, there was something about going fishing. Whether it’s the hours spent waiting for the smallest nibble, the excitement of reeling in a catch or just the sense of peace and quiet that envelopes a fishing spot, or perhaps it’s all of these put together. His favorite fishing spots is where Nick found his peace. Besides fishing Nick liked to kayak, spend time with his brother and play with nephew. His happy place was with them and being near or on the water.

Nick was an outgoing person, a fun loving guy who was the most animated person in the room. Nick just loved to be with people and raise the roof with laughter.

It will forever remain a mystery as to why, but Nick was the biggest Indianapolis Colts fan in all of New England. Regardless of local support for the Patriots and endless teasing by family and friends, Nick was a Colts fan through and through. He stuck with his team of choice no matter what each football season brought, even in the years that the Patriots went to the Super Bowl. Nick knew what it meant to be loyal.

He graduated from Woonsocket High School with the class of 2008. He worked in the construction industry at several construction and concrete companies in the area as well as at several local restaurants over the years.

Born in Woonsocket, Nick is survived by his parents, Jeffrey R. Martel of Pennsylvania and Eleanor Trottier of Pawtucket, his wife Amy Bernier, his daughter Gracie Elizabeth Martel and her mother Mary Moore of Missouri.

He was the loving brother of Jeffrey Martel, Jr. of Pascoag and grandson of Jeanne and James Clancy of Manville and the late Rita and William Wigglesworth of Woonsocket. He is also survived by his aunt Robyn Cook and her husband Scott, aunt Tina Wigglesworth, his beloved nephew Brayden Martel and leaves behind extended family and a large circle of friends who will all miss him dearly.

Arrangements for Nick are private and in care of the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket.
