Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 9 am. Burial in St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Ellis “Terry” Hillgrove, III 57 years of Halifax died Sunday at the Massachusetts General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was the loving husband of Donna-Jean (Kelly) Hillgrove. He was in born in Holyoke, Mass. a son of Ellis B. Hillgrove, Jr. of Blandford, Mass.and the late Helen (Kingsley) Hillgrove. He was the step-son of Trude Hillgrove. He had been a resident of Halifax since 2000.
Terry was a graduate of Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham class of 1967 where he was a member of the hockey team. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam era as a Corpsman stationed in the Great Lakes region.
Until the time of his illness, Terry served as an Associate Court Officer at the Stoughton District Court. Previously he had been employed as a Communications Officer and Deputy Sheriff of Plymouth County. At one time he had owned and operated the INTM Coffee Shops at the Brockton District and Superior Court Houses.
An avid golfer he had been a longtime member of the Brockton Country Club where he boasted two holes in one and was most recently a member of the Country Club at Halifax. He loved cooking and was a faithful Red Sox and Patriots fan.
In addition to his wife, father and step-mother he is survived by two brothers and two sisters Kathleen Hillgrove of Cocoanut Creek, Florida; Robert Hillgrove of Muncie, Indiana; John Hillgrove of South Woodstock, Vermont and Karen Hook of Wethersfield, Connecticut. He was the step-father of Nathaniel May and Joel Wentworth both of East Bridgewater, three nieces and one nephew as well as many extended family. Terry was loved by many close friends
