Margaret “Mona” McInerney
Family Matriarch
BILLERICA: Margaret “Mona” (Neal) McInerney, age 99 years, a resident of Billerica for 23 years, formerly of Harwich and Tewksbury, passed away at her home in the care of her family and Merrimack Valley Hospice on Monday evening, May 30, 2022.
She was the beloved wife of the late Walter E. McInerney, Sr. and devoted mother of the late Walter E. McInerney, Jr.
Born in Boston on December 26, 1922, she was one of fourteen children of the late Charles W. Neal and the late Mary Ellen (Kennedy) Neal.
Mona was raised in East Boston and graduated from Girls High School of Boston.
During World War II, she worked for the Raytheon Corporation where she met her future husband, Walter.
She later went on to work for the former Filene’s Clothing Store in Burlington and Hyannis.
Mona and her late husband raised their family of six children in Tewksbury.
She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and board games, as well as completing puzzles.
Mona is survived by five daughters, Cheryl A. Sweeney and Robert Mosack, of Tewksbury, Linda J. Conley and her husband Joseph, of Billerica, Susan M. Pimentel and her husband Dennis, of Tewksbury, Janet C. Brewer and her husband James, of Billerica, Ellen M. Merrill and her fiancé David Zabawa, of Billerica. She was the grandmother of Rick Sweeney, Jack Sweeney, Lisa Vigneau, Brian Conley, Ana Pimentel, David Pimentel, Derek Power, Shannon Fortier and the late John Pimentel, and great grandmother of Austin, John, Taylor, Catherine, Lily, Connor, Cooper, Colin, Claire, Elise, Amelia, and Isabella.
Mona was pre-deceased by her six sisters and seven brothers.
Calling hours are Thursday, June 2, from 4-7 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Services will be held Friday, June 3 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St. Lawrence, MA 01843.
