Obituary

William “Will” F.A. Choate, age 32, of Woburn, MA, born March 3, 1990 in Medway, MA left us suddenly on May 26, 2022.

Beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, son-in-law, and friend, his loss is mourned by many.

Will, an arborist, was also the owner of Choate Tree and Landscaping, a highly regarded local business that he built with passion and skill. He cared deeply about the natural world and will also be missed by his many clients and colleagues.

Will was predeceased by his grandmother Nancy Choate, his grandfather Alexander Johnston, his aunt Autumn Choate
and his very dear friend John Garvey.

He is survived by his wife, Solana (Johnson) and son, Leo, of Woburn, MA; his parents Heather and Billy Choate and brother Brian, of Medway, MA; his grandmother Edith Johnston and uncle Glenn Johnston of Wayland, MA; his grandfather Fran Choate and aunt Susan Choate of Auburn, Georgia; his uncle and aunt, Scott and Kelly Choate of Wrentham, MA; his cousins Stephen, Justin, Doug and Eric;
and his mothers-in-law, Kim DeAndrade and Catherine Johnson of Medford MA.

Will graduated from Medway High School in 2008 and studied arboriculture while attending The Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. His knowledge of trees and plants was encyclopedic. His enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge was boundless.

Prior to building his own business Will worked for Cedarlawn Tree and then was an award-winning, top salesman at Jordan’s furniture.

He loved playing with his son, Leo, and his Chocolate Lab, Maisie. He always enjoyed taking time to go fishing or play golf with his brother, Brian, and other friends. He was an avid home cook and grill master, skills he had learned from and shared with his mother and father.

He loved starting and tending a good fire in the large Solo stove on the patio, in the backyard which he had painstakingly reshaped from an area of scrub to a play and entertainment space with lovely gardens.

Inside the beautiful, comfortable home that he lovingly restored with his father Billy and others, in addition to cooking and playing with Leo and Maisie dog, he often watched documentaries on all sorts of topics and excelled at playing video games and board games.

Will was usually listening to music, from a wide range of genres and decades. Will enjoyed good food, especially the cooking and baking of his mother, Heather, the food of his youth. In addition to always seeking and trying out new recipes at home, he loved eating at new restaurants, but his standards for both food and service were high, so sometimes he was disappointed.

Will had a lifetime connection to Cape Cod, where the Choate family had a history of boating and fishing. Before becoming parents, he and his wife Solana traveled to Canada; explored, ate local foods and hiked a volcano in Guatemala and traveled to Delhi, India to take part in a friend’s traditional Indian wedding. Will was always up for a new adventure.

His openness and curiosity about the world and the people he met was central to Will’s being.

R.I.P. Will Choate. We love you, always.
