Obituary

Julie Ann (Couture) Balakin, 71 of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lowell on August 4, 1950 and was a daughter of the late Joseph R. and the late Marie (Twohig) Couture. She was raised in Lowell, graduating from Lowell High School with the class of 1969.

In 1969, she married her high school sweetheart, Paul A. Balakin, and shared the last 53 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Family was her world, especially her grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered as ‘Mrs. Claus’ around Christmas time. She enjoyed playing the lottery, keno, and visiting casinos. She was also a die hard Red Sox fan.

In addition to her husband, Paul Balakin of Dracut, she is survived by her children, Paul A. Balakin of Lowell, Ericka L. Balakin and her husband, Ronald ‘Butch’ Beaudry of Tyngsboro, Christopher Balakin of Nashua, NH, and Anthony P. Balakin and his fiance, Paula L. Quigley of Dracut; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Arthur Couture of Lowell, Donna M. Lopes and her husband, Joe of Pelham, NH, David Couture and his wife, Susan of Dracut, Dennis Couture and his wife, Donna of Nashua, NH, Kathleen Couture McNiff of Florida; her sister in law, Dorothy Hibbert of Lowell; her brother in law, Robert "Sudsy" Balakin and his wife, Pauline of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends including Debbie Verfaillie of Lowell and her doctor, Dr. Alexandra Argasinski of Lowell whom cared for Julie for the past 18 years.


She was predeceased by her brother, the late Raymond Couture.

On Tuesday, May 31, 2022 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4-8 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.

Her funeral will begin on Wednesday, June 1, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Her Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, 374 Stevens Street, Lowell at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford.
