Obituary

CHICOPEE – Arthur “Ben” Benoit, 78, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, May 21, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Sturbridge on June 1, 1943, a beloved son of the late Arthur and Imelda (Lacasse) Benoit. He was raised in Southbridge, where he graduated from the last class at Mary E. Wells High School. He furthered his education and attended Holyoke Community College. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the United States Air Force Medal. Following his service to his country, Arthur was a Postal Clerk for over 30 years at the Bulk Mail Center on Fiberloid Street in Indian Orchard. He was a communicant of Saint Anne Church and was a lifetime member of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus, both in Chicopee. He was previously a communicant at the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in the Willimansett section of Chicopee where he served his Parish as the President of the League of the Sacred Heart, on the Parish Council, and was the Bingo Chair for ten years. During his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, solving crossword puzzles, and working on jigsaw puzzles. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Jeanne Y. (Gendreau) Benoit. They were married on May 16, 1964 at Sacred Heart Church in Southbridge and were blessed with over 58 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Marc E. Benoit and his partner, Kathleen Laughlin, and Christine J. Provost, Esq. and her husband, Douglas, all of Chicopee, and John M. Milton-Benoit and his wife, Holly Milton-Benoit, of Chesterfield, VA; his seven cherished grandchildren, Jessica M. Lessing, Aaron A. Lessing, Ella Milton-Benoit, Rowan Milton-Benoit, Joshua D. Provost and his wife, Amanda, Jonathan M. Provost, and Brandon T. Provost; his two cherished great grandsons, Brantley J. Provost and Carson B. Provost; his dear brother in law, Henry Gendreau of Worcester; his dear sister in law, Lucille Tremblay of Southbridge; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brothers Roger Benoit and Ronald Benoit, and his dear sister, Jacqueline St. Laurent and her husband, Arthur. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (the funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 1, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
