Obituary

With grace, bravery, and love, Patricia Doreen Quimby Merianos, 67, of Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away on May 20th after a courageous battle with cancer. Patty left this earth the way she was determined to leave it: at home with the sounds of songbirds, surrounded and held by the family she loved more than life itself.

Patty was a true Campello girl - a proud Brocktonian through and through. She was born on May 16, 1955, at the old Goddard Hospital in Brockton to Harry and Dorothy Quimby. The eldest of six, Patty graduated from Brockton High School in 1973, then went on to earn her Associates Degree from Massasoit Community College.

Patty married her high school sweetheart, Peter, on September 10, 1983, and went on to build a life she was ferociously proud of. She began her career working in the offices of Shaw’s supermarket before selflessly pausing her own professional trajectory to raise her family. She supported her husband in establishing his own small business, running their office the way she did everything in life - with humility, dedication, and only a few eye rolls. She did everything and anything for her children; Girl Scout leader, sports team enthusiast, carpool driver, field trip chaperone, halloween costume maker, birthday cake baker, and everything else that she felt came with the job title of “mom”. She was a phenomenal sewist, and passed down her love of making and creating to her children.

Patty was the ultimate hostess; those who have ever had the pleasure of attending a famous “Patty Party” will know. Proud of her husband's cultural heritage, she mastered the art of Greek cooking and taught her children how to carry it on. She was a stupendous home cook, pie baker, cookie maker, and gardener. She took pride in her vegetable garden, often growing more tomatoes than she knew what to do with.

Since childhood, Patty loved camping, traveling and seeing the world. She spent countless summers camping on the Cape, traveling to her cabin in Maine, spending the day on the water in her boat, or searching for sea glass at Scussett Beach. Alongside her husband, Patty traveled the world. She kept a soft spot in her heart for all the places her children have lived (California, Texas, Washington, D.C., Maine, and Boston), as well as the Chianti region of Tuscany and her favorite island: Turks and Caicos.

Patty is survived by her husband Peter, her three children, Sarah, Marc, and Roseangela, her son-in-law Matt, and her daughter-in-law Jacky. She is also survived by a large extended family including her mother, Dorothy. She is preceded by her father Harry, her parents-in-law George and Angela, and her beloved cat, Abe.

Patty has requested that in lieu of flowers, to consider making a donation in her name, to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute: https://tinyurl.com/ForPDQM When making your gift, please use the drop down menu under “Direct My Gift to the Following Area”, then select Women’s Cancer, followed by Ovarian Cancer, to ensure your memorial gift goes towards research and support in finding a cure. Patty would also have loved for those who are able to donate a pint of blood, in honor of her fearless battle.

A celebration of her life will be held at Christ Congregational Church 1350 Pleasant St. in Brockton, Massachusetts with calling hours on Thursday, May 26th from 5:00-7:00 PM and funeral services on Friday, May 27th at 10:00 AM.
