John J. McCarthy of Winthrop passed away on May 19, 2022. He was 90 years old. John was the beloved husband of 69 years to Althea A. (Paterson) McCarthy. John was the cherished son of the late William and Mary (Capillo) McCarthy.
John was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War from 1952-1954. Prior to his retirement, John worked as a safety manager for American Airlines.
John was the devoted father of Patricia Frasso and her husband Nicholas, Julia DiBenedetto and her husband Ralph, John McCarthy Jr. and his wife Roseli and Charles McCarthy and his wife Jennifer. He was the proud grandfather of Lindsay, Allison, Richard, Nicholas and Thomas. John was the dear brother of William McCarthy and his late twin brother Carmen McCarthy and the late Mary Phelan.
At John’s request, visiting hours are respectfully omitted and interment will be private. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donating to Survivors by the Sea at the website https://survivorsbythesea.org.
