Joseph Markarian of Watertown, MA passed away peacefully on May 13 at the age of 102. Joe was a WWII Veteran having serving in the South Pacific as part of the U. S. Army 29th Evacuation Hospital. In 1946, he married Florence Almasian of Whitinsville, MA. They moved to Ashland and raised a family there when in 1956 Joe became the first music director in the Hopkinton public school system. Joe and Florence returned to Watertown in 1986 and became more active with the St. Stephen’s Armenian Apostolic Church. That is also when Joe began 27 years of volunteer work at the Perkins School for the Blind.
Loving husband, father and grandfather; devoted friend. Joe was a quiet personality but stood out for his genuiness, humility and integrity. As he had hoped, he lived a long, healthy and happy life. Because of who he was, his was a meaningful life.
A funeral service followed by burial at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Watertown will be privately held.
