Obituary

Judith L. Smith, 78, of Westport, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022. She was the wife of the late Captain Herbert E. Smith, they were married for 58 years.

Born in Sublaco, Western Australia, daughter of the late W. Lincoln Burt and Winnifred "Rita" Moss, she grew up in Canton, MA prior to moving to Westport. She enjoyed doing the bookkeeping for Perry's Bakery, in her early years she did the bookkeeping for the fishing vessel Curlew. She also got her real estate license. Judy loved going to Key West with Herb for the winters and being on the Westport River in the summers since she was a kid. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Canton Chapter and the Westport Women's Club. Mrs. Smith absolutely loved listening to her son Alex play music and her granddaughters Amber and Allison sing. She enjoyed bowling at the Holiday Lanes for 10 years, playing cribbage with her friends and always looked forward to going to Thomas Point Blue Grass Festivals in the fall.

She is survived by her children: Karen L. Smith of Westport, Marsha J. Miranda of Westport and Alexander L. Smith of Westport; grandchildren: Jacob Miranda, Jordan Miranda, Amber L. Smith, Andrew B. Manchester and Allison P. Manchester; cousins: Bob, John and Barbara; her extended family who she loved: George and Susan Smith, Paul and Carolyn Langlois, Doris Smith and the late Alexander R. "Bud" Smith, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was mother in law of the late Michael S. Miranda.

Graveside service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport at 1:00 P.M.

Immediately following the service the family would like to invite everyone to the Westport Social Club to celebrate Judy and Herb.
