Matthews, Joan A., age 86, of Westwood, passed away at home on Friday, May 13, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Joan was the daughter of Thomas and Beatrice (Harzbecker) Egan. Joan was the loving wife to the late John Charles Matthews with whom she was married for 62 years. Joan was a dedicated mother to her three children; John Matthews and his partner Denise of Brockton, Kevin Matthews and his wife Ruthie of Falmouth, and Kathleen Sobol and Paul of Rockland. Sister to Barbara Murphy of Newton and the late Pauline Dunn of Westwood and aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was also the proud nana to several grandchildren.
Joan took pride in her work as a medical assistant and in volunteering at the Westwood Council on Aging. She loved crocheting blankets for all her loved ones, watching sports, especially the Red Sox, and spending time with her family and friends.
There will be no wake. A funeral mass will be held for Joan at St. Timothy’s Parish (650 Nichols St.) in Norwood, MA on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
