Obituary

Gerda Montes was born in Haiti in 1951. Her parents were Emmanuel Lavaud and Amelia Montes, however, was raised by her great-grandmother, Lea, who showed her immense care and love, and also showed her how to be a servant of the Lord. These are the values that she was able to pass on to her children, grand-children, extended family, and many many fictive sons and daughters.

Gerda arrived in the states as a young bride in the early 70’s where they had two daughters Julie and Sandra. Gerda soon became a single mother to her two young daughters. She worked very hard and selflessly sacrificed her own needs in order to make sure her children were well cared for and in order that they can be successful in the future. Her biggest ambition was to instill important values in her children, such as, loving and serving others, appreciation and gratitude, self-worth, orderly living, and most importantly, the love for Christ.

She married the late Fritz Gourdet who had three children. Elsie, Gourdet’s eldest daughter, who passed in 2020, was like a biological daughter. Since Elsie’s death, her children have found safety with their “Auntie Dada” through her kindness, prayers, and advice.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Gerda's name to Echo Evangelique.
