Obituary

TEWKSBURY: Alexander A. Gretsky, age 58, a resident of North Billerica , died Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Tewksbury Hospital, following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Chelsea on November 3, 1947, he was the son of Alexander G. Gretsky, who survives him of Gilford, NH and the late Marilyn (Baggs) Gretsky.
Mr. Gretsky was raised in Tewksbury.
He attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School.
Mr. Gretsky served during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was awarded several medals and decorations including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
Following his honorable discharge from active duty, he attended Northern Essex Community College, where he received an A.S. degree in Business Administration.
Prior to his illness, he was employed as a steel fabricator by several manufacturing companies including A&G Welding of Tewksbury.
Mr. Gretsky was a communicant of St. William’s Church of Tewksbury.
He was a member of the former Tewksbury Civil Air Patrol and the Tewksbury D.A.V. Post # 110.
He was an avid outdoorsman, who especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and snowmobiling.
In addition to his father, he is survived by one son; Alexander A. Gretsky, Jr. of Salt Lake City, UT; one daughter; Kate E. O’Donnell and her husband Kenneth of Haverhill; his former wife; Nancy Gretsky-Johnson of Plaistow, NH; one sister; Donna M. Griffiths of Tewksbury; one nephew; Patrick T. Griffiths and his wife Amy of Lowell; his fiancée; Linda Eori of Billerica and her children; Laura Eori of Billerica, Sean Eori and his wife Julie of Albion, ME, and Brian Eori of Billerica; one uncle; George Barry and his wife Barbara of Chatsworth, CA; two aunts; Janice Richardson and her husband William of Chelsea and Linda Snyder and her husband Vance of Wilmington; two cousins; Glenn Barry of Chatsworth, CA and Diane Middlestadt of Claremont, CA.
Calling hours Monday, May 8th, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Tuesday, May 9th at 9 a.m., from the funeral home. Funeral Mass Tuesday, 10 a.m., at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Committal services at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
