Obituary

CHICOPEE – Mary Margaret “Peggy” (Walsh) Ingram, 75, of Chicopee and a former resident of Newport, Rhode Island was Called Safely Home on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at Care One at Redstone in East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Newport, Rhode Island on February 21, 1947, a beloved daughter of the late William P. and Mary T. (Mee) Walsh. She was raised in Newport, graduated from Saint Catherine Academy and later attended Johnson and Wales in Providence, Rhode Island. She was employed by several financial companies in Rhode Island before moving to Western Massachusetts around 1970. She was employed as an Assistant Manager for Beneficial Finance Company in Chicopee and later as a Senior Collector for Third National Bank of New England, Fleet Bank and Bank of America. She later worked for Autron Paper Company and Cubit Wire and Cable Company, both in Holyoke. During her leisure time, Peggy loved working on arts and crafts, bike riding, swimming at the beaches in Rhode Island, horseback riding, dancing, and attending her beloved 50’s concerts. In addition, she enjoyed working with her fellow classmates on her High School Reunions in Newport. She loved being Irish and enjoyed meeting up with her family and her many friends including her childhood best friend since the age of 7, Michele Sullivan of Newport. As Peggy was an only child, she always remarked that her wonderful friends were like her sisters and brothers that she never had growing up. She enjoyed helping her family and friends and always said “That is why we are on earth, to help one another here and to achieve our final goal in heaven”. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister. She leaves her two devoted sons and daughter-in-law, Carl L. Ingram Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of Chicopee, and Shawn P. Ingram of Tiverton, RI, and her two cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Kyle Ingram and Katherine Ingram, both of Chicopee. In addition, she leaves a special friend, Alphonse Gagnon of Chicopee; numerous dear cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her dear former husband, Carl L. Ingram Sr. who was Called Home on September 23, 2020. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, May 14, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Relatives and Friends are invited to her Committal Service which will be held on Monday morning, May 16, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Saint Columba Cemetery, 465 Browns Lane, Middletown, RI 02842. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 13, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Joan of Arc School, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
