Obituary

GRODEN, Mary A. (Lapsley) Of Dedham, formerly of Mission Hill and Westwood. May 8, 2022, age 97. Beloved wife of the late Edward F. Groden. Loving mother to the late M. Anne Hemming and the late Stuart Hemming of Sugarland, TX, Maryellen Coffey and her husband Daniel of Concord, Edward F. Groden and the late Catherine M. (King) and the late Susan M. McClain of Westwood, Catherine Groden of Charleston, SC, Noreen Liffers and her husband Mark of Charleston, SC, Jane Bean and her husband Robert of Newport News, VA, Patricia Regan and her husband John of Falmouth, Susan Clifford of Norwood and Beth Guarnagia and her husband William of Medfield. Proud grandmother of seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her brother Robert Lapsley and his wife Kathleen of Dedham and her sister-in-law Shirley Lapsley, wife of the late William Lapsley of Braintree, and a large extended family of many loving nieces and nephews. Mary was the third oldest of eleven children born to the late William A. and Catherine F. (Hunt) Lapsley of Mission Hill. Married to Edward for 49 bliss-filled years. Despite rearing her own family, she always found time to be a surrogate mother to anyone in need. Mary was a masterful cook, seamstress and problem solver. A devout Catholic and long-time member of the St. Mary Sodality.

Visiting Hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM, on Friday, May 13 from 4-8pm. Funeral from the Funeral Home on Saturday, May 14 at 10am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Dedham at 11am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory can be made to the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 1545 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02120.
