Obituary

Worcester: Murray F. MacLean, 85, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 in St. Vincent Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife Jean Marie (Gillis) MacLean on February 15, 2022. He leaves a son Darrell MacLean of Worcester; a daughter Lucinda Zettek and her husband Matthew of Hopkinton; a grandson Matthew Zettek; siblings- Neil MacLean, Eunice Carmichael, Ferne Kenney, and Rhodena MacLean; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter Sheila MacLean, a brother Allan MacLean and his first wife Margaret (Matheson) MacLean.

Murray was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, son of the late Murdock and Mary (MacIver) MacLean. He graduated from Baddeck Rural High School, did electrical training in Halifax, and worked with his father for Martell’s Construction on the Trans Canada Highway before moving to the United States. After settling in Massachusetts, Murray worked as a Maytag repair man before opening his own business with a friend. He eventually grew his business to a chain of laundromats called M&M Laundries. He continued to own and operate a laundry until into his 80’s; work was his hobby.

As a younger man, Murray loved country music and enjoyed having friends and family to his home for barbecues and lobster boils. He was a true homebody and did not mind hosting lively home parties. Murray’s favorite place was being at home. He was content to sit at his kitchen chair with a newspaper and a cup of coffee looking out the window.
