Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Joseph L. “Joe” Martin, 78, of the East Springfield section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Saturday, April 30, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Gardiner, Maine on October 27, 1943, a beloved son of the late Leo A. and Kathleen C. (True) Martin. He was raised in Maine and moved to Springfield in the 1970’s where he lived for the rest of his life. Joe was last employed as an Orderly at Baystate Medical Center and had previously worked at Titeflex and Moore Drop Forge, all in Springfield. Joe was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys, the Boston Red Sox, the Celtics and the Bruins. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate of 48 years, Kathleen M. (Plamondon) Martin; his five loving children, Pamela Hill, Candice Hutchinson and her husband, Arthur, Karelyn Garrity and her husband, Scott, Joseph Plamondon and his partner, Stephanie Granfield, and Belinda Plamondon and her partner, Mason Davis; his eight cherished grandchildren; his twelve cherished great-grandchildren; his two dear sisters, Barbara Seekins and Donna Hobart; and his many dear brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition, he will be sadly missed by his faithful canine companions, Charli and Sasha. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother, Leo Martin and his dear sister, Beverly Purdon. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, May 13, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Celebration Service at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in his memory to the TJ O’Connor Foundation for Animals, 66 Industry Avenue, Suite 3, Springfield, MA 01104.
