Irvin F. Piehler, age 78 of Webster, Ma, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2022. He is preceded by his parents, Raymond E. Piehler and Doris K. (Dostoler) Piehler who ran the Snug Harbor restaurant for many years on the shores of Webster Lake.

Irv leaves his soul mate of 30+ years Margaret M. Bond and daughter Kelly of Brooklyn, Ct, his son Jon O. Piehler (J.O.) of Dudley, Ma, his other son Todd A. Piehler of Webster, Ma, his daughter-in-law Jennifer A. Piehler and his two loving granddaughters Madison O. Piehler and Gabrielle R. Piehler. Irv also leaves his sister Gail A. Roe and brother-in-law Bruce Roe of Webster, his former wife Marlene J. Piehler, and many cousins, especially Gabriele R. Bergmann of Weimar, Germany.

Irv was a graduate of Bartlett High School in 1961. In 1962 he joined the US Marine Corp and served as a Corpsman in the 3rd Medical Battalion. Subsequently, he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, assigned to San Diego Naval Hospital, and tended to the wounded troops returning from Vietnam.

After discharge, he attended Nichols College and Clark University to pursue a career in banking and finance. He spent the majority of his banking career at Worcester County National & Shawmut Bank and Putnam Savings bank. He retired from banking in 1995.

Irv was an avid water skier and sailing enthusiast, holding numerous Eastern and North American water skiing titles including an Eastern Region water ski jumping record in his youth. He also participated in 12-meter America’s Cup sailing trials and numerous Newport-Bermuda races. He was very proud of that.

Irv will be best known for his time spent on Webster Lake, which was a big part of him. Whether it was as a boy swimming in the lake at Snug Harbor, water skiing morning, noon, and night as a teenager, or captaining the helm of a pontoon boat in his later years. Irv enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. If you knew him, you probably remember one of his sayings or limericks that he would recite often.
