Obituary

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Marie L. (Nichols) Sarkis, of West Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life Heritage Hall East in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Pittsfield on May 23, 1924, a beloved daughter of the late James J. and Suzanne Nichols. She was raised in Pittsfield and Springfield before moving to West Springfield in 1959 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a graduate of The High School of Commerce in Springfield. She was a loving homemaker to her husband, her children and grandchildren. She was a communicant of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield where she also was a member of the Women's Guild. During her leisure time, she enjoyed knitting, cooking, caring for her grandchildren and praying for people. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, John C. Sarkis. She leaves her loving children, Mary Sloan and her husband, Rodney, of Scotland, Ann Ryan and her husband, Michael, of Virginia and Joseph Sarkis and his wife, Ann-Marie, of West Springfield; her cherished grandchildren, Katie Rudd and her husband, Jason Rudd, Connery Ryon, Laura Kraver and her husband, Nicholas, and Anthony Sarkis; her cherished great-granddaughters, Emilia and Amber Rudd; her dear brother in law, Albert Mancini of Ludlow; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her cherished grandson, Justin Ryon; her dear brothers, Nicholas Nichols and his wife, Celia, and Edward Nichols and his wife, Barbara; and her dear sisters, Dolores Mancini and Odette Toomey and her husband, Joseph. Marie’s family is grateful for the care and friendship she received from the staff at Heritage Hall East. Her Funeral will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, 420 Kings Highway, West Springfield, MA 01089. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, May 8, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. followed by Reflections by the family at 5:30 p.m. Please note that masks are required for her services.
