Obituary

Manuel Santos, 71, of Dartmouth and Clearwater, Fla., died Thursday May 4, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after an extended illness. He was the husband of Ruth E. (Mills) Santos.

Born in New Bedford the son of the late Mary (Medeiros) and John Espirito Santos, he lived in Dartmouth for most of his life and had wintered in Florida for many years.

He was a member of Cross Road Bible Chapel in Dartmouth.

Mr. Santos was a Lieutenant in the Dartmouth Police Department until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Stephen Santos, and his wife Maria, of New Bedford, and Matthew Santos, and his wife Trudy, and John Santos, all of Dartmouth; two daughters, Donna Gonsalves, and her husband Victor, and Sheryl Getchell, and her husband Bryce, all of Dartmouth; his son-in-law, Timothy Lowney of Dartmouth; and 12 grandchildren.

He was the father of the late Sandra Lowney.

His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by burial in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 PM.
