The Life and Legacy of…
Servela Theodore

Manmie (Grandma) was called home to the Lord on April 25th, 2022, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA at the age of 81 surrounded by her family.
She was born to the late Theda Gaspard and Cevelance Edouard in Bellevue, Aquin on October 14th, 1940. At an early age she became a mother to her 2 youngest siblings due to the passing of their mother. She was in her early 20’s when she met her husband Raguel Theodore and decided to leave the country life behind and move to Port-au-Prince to raise their own family. They had four children.

In 1971, she was introduced to a prominent couple vacationing in Haiti, they fell in love with her cooking and invited her to come and work for them in Boston. In the spirit of bettering her life and her family, she moved to Boston and after a few years returned to her family in Haiti.

A beloved wife and mother, she worked hard and sacrificed a lot for her family. Everything she did was to support her family and extended family.
In 1976 shortly after the birth of her 4th c child, she opened her own convenience store in her neighborhood. In 1979, she moved back to Boston to the family she had worked for before, with the determination to build a better life for her family. After establishing a life and home in Boston, her family came to join her. In Boston, she became the head chef for the family in Massachusetts, working hard as a homemaker and a live-in-Chef. In 1986, she went to work at Mount Auburn Hospital as an Environmental Services Worker for over 20 years after which she proudly retired in 2010 at the age of 69.

A beloved wife, mother, and devoted friend, she never tired of giving to her family, friends, and community. Servela is survived by her two sons Doublas and Gerathel Theodore her two daughters Joumathe and Marie-Noel Theodore, her daughters- in-law Kristin Krukenberg and Merline Noel-Theodore, her grandchildren Shanaya and Cevelance Theodore, her brother Louis Edouard, her sister Enante Edouard and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Raguel Theodore, her sisters Jacqueline Edouard, Lamercia Edouard, and Mme Velinord Cetoute.

She was well-known and loved by many. She had a special bond with her adoptive sons and daughters, Ernst & Polycarpe and Ruthza & Carline. She was a faithful and active member of Berea missionary Church “L’Eglise Missionaire de Beree” for 20 years, where she had a special relationship with her church family. She was the church mother and made sure everyone who came to Saturday morning prayers was fed, and her home was always open to anyone for Sunday dinner.

Today, we say goodbye to a wonderful woman, a beautiful mother & grandmother, a devoted friend, a loyal sister, aunt, cousin, and a child of God.
We love you Manmie, and we will miss you.
