Obituary

Sam Wigglesworth Cioffi of Beverly Farms, MA passed away, Sunday May 1, 2022. Sam was the adored son of Doug and Sally Cioffi, and loving brother of Drew and Ford and beloved sister Alexa.

Born in Boston, MA on September 14, 1999, Sam attended Shore Country Day School, Lawrence Academy, and graduated from Marblehead High School in 2018. After high school he attended the University of Vermont and most recently was attending Salem State University’s Business School.

Known affectionately as “Sammy”, he lit up a room wherever he went. Sam was an exceptional athlete, excelling in hockey and lacrosse all throughout middle school and high-school, and was a top offensive lacrosse recruit for the University of Vermont 2022 class. Sam had a tightknit group of friends he cherished, and he could often be found with his older brother Drew and his “pack of brothers” in the Farms “hood” conjuring up a game of manhunt and flag football. He was happiest with a stick in his hand, and he loved pickup games of street hockey and mini stick lacrosse, frequently taking the “dangle” or “behind the back -- BTB” shot as he liked to call it, netting him the winning goal. Often these late afternoon summer games would be followed by a family cookout or “wing night” with friends, where the boys regaled one another with stories of “epic” goals or plays.

Sam’s scoring success followed him everywhere he went. Sam had just broken the single season goal record on Friday, April 29th in the team’s final game, and he was a finalist for the VESPY Award for record setting Performance of the Year. A record Sam and his family and friends are so proud of. He will be deeply missed on and off the field. It was not unusual for many friends and families to call Sam their second son.

Along with his parents, brothers and sister, Sam is survived by his Grandfather Paul Cioffi of Venice, Florida and is the grandson of the late Betty “Gigi” Cioffi and Penny “Grammy” Wigglesworth and Giff Wigglesworth of Marblehead, MA. Aunts and uncles Nancy Wigglesworth Dugan and Dion Dugan of Brewster, MA, Giff and Sue Wigglesworth of Marblehead, MA as well as John Wigglesworth of Sacramento, CA. and Eric and Liza Cioffi of Richmond, Virginia along with many cousins.

A vigil of remembrance will be held, Tuesday, May 3 at 7:00pm at the Salem State University Lacrosse Stadium. A celebration of Sam’s life will be held at the Hastings House, 14 Oak Street, Beverly Farms on Friday, May 6 at 4:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in Sam’s memory to the National Association of Mental Illness, (NAMI) Greater North Shore 85 Herrick Street, Beverly, Massachusetts 01915.
