Obituary

Durvalina Maria (Correia) Mendonca, 78 of Lowell, passed away peacefully after a long period of declining health on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Mary Immaculate Health Care Center in Lawrence. She was the widow of the late Eurico Santos Mendonca who passed away in 2005.

She was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on August 26, 1943 and was a daughter of the late Fernadino and the late Dolores Correia. She was raised and educated in Graciosa. In August of 1986, she relocated to the United States with her family, setting in Lowell’s Back Central Street neighborhood.

Durvalina worked as a line packer for many years at Prince Macaroni until they closed, and then at Old Mother Hubbard until their closing. She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church and member of the Holy Ghost Society, the Portuguese American Center ‘the Blue’s Club’, the Portuguese Senior Citizen Club. She enjoyed attending feasts and spending time at the beach. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, brought her the most happiness. She always valued her family over anything else and loved making memories with them, especially cooking for them.

Durvalina is survived by her three children, Laurindo ‘Manny’ Mendonca and his wife, Dawn of Westford, Eurico M. Mendonca and his wife, Jacqueline of Methuen, and Maria C. Mendonca of Lowell; her five grandchildren, Danielle Mendonca, Sarah Mendonca, Emily Mendonca, Jason Mendonca, and Ava Resendes. She is also survived by her siblings and several nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

On Thursday, May 5, 2022 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4-8 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 978-458-6816.

Her funeral will begin on Friday morning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Church in Lowell.

Procession for burial will follow to Lowell Cemetery.
