Vera D. Swords, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Tift Regional Medical Center, Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Rev. Barry Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Swords was born November 10, 1918 in Echols County, Georgia to the late Samuel Peter and Mamie Daugharty Dickens. She lived in Fitzgerald since 1986 from Tifton, where she retired as secretary with Norman Lincoln-Mercury. She managed the Weight Watchers group in Fitzgerald and Sylvester for over 15 years. Mrs. Swords was a member of Crossview Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons: William Edwin Swords of Fitzgerald and James Larry Swords of Griffin; grandchildren: Georganne Swords, Amy Swords and William Swords, Jr., all of Fitzgerald; great-grandchild: Madison Walsh of Fitzgerald; brother: Dr. James Dickens of Fitzgerald. Mrs. Swords was preceded in death by her husband, George Cecil Swords, a brother and a sister.
