Obituary


Michael Thomas Smith of Provincetown died Friday, April 29th, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness. He was sixty-two.

Born in Hyannis, June 13, 1959, he was the son of Camila (Meads) and Stan Smith of Provincetown. Educated in Provincetown, he graduated from Provincetown High School in 1978. While in high school, he played baseball and helped the team attain championship status.

After graduation, he started doing maintenance work at the high school, retiring in 2018, after 40 years of service. For over the past 20 years, Mike owned Cape Tip Aluminum, which he acquired from his dad upon his dad’s retirement.

Michael was also a member of the Provincetown Fire Department, serving on Engine 4 and on Engine 3. He retired from the fire department due to declining health.

Michael enjoyed collecting sports cards and had an extensive collection. He also loved animals, showing extreme kindness to animals over the years, both domestic and wild alike.

In addition to his parents, he leaves a son, Justin Smith of Winthrop, a sister Lisa Smith, of Provincetown, an uncle, Larry Brownell and wife Rainey of Truro and his niece and godchild, Lily Smith of Provincetown, as well as many friends.

At Michael’s request, there will be no services.
