Obituary

NEW GLOUCESTER & Buxton- Kenneth L. McNerney (1956-2022) passed in his sleep on April 27th , in New Gloucester, Maine. Born in Portland, Maine, to Kathleen Seavey McNerney and Edward McNerney, Sr., he grew up in So. Portland and Buxton, Maine with his parents and siblings, who all enjoyed weekly picnics and swimming at Sebago Lake State Park. He attended Bonney Eagle High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a deep sea fisherman and lobsterman prior to becoming an extremely talented finish carpenter. He was employed at Windham Millwork, Inc. for 30 years and took great pride in his craftsmanship. He was the first one there to help his parents with home projects or lend a hand to family and friends, many of whom will treasure the items he hand-crafted for them.

He enjoyed hunting, boating, motorcycling, riding his 4x4 and being in remote places. As a young man, he would grin and share with pride that he kept his motorcycle inside his apartment. At the family’s annual “Chickenfest” Ken was often the official chicken fryer. He also made a mean pot of baked beans, and his parents were always happy to see him walk in the door with them. In recent years, he and the love of his life, Becky, spent as much time as possible at a hunting camp in North New Portland, Maine.

Ken purchased and renovated a home in New Gloucester and preferred to live his life privately. Known for his lack of patience, he did not hold back his opinion and had a knack for telling it like it is. Ken either liked you or he didn’t. His friends and family are still trying to figure out which one it was, but we all know he loved us. Those fortunate enough to be invited into his circle, were blessed to know his humor and the tenderness at the center of his sometimes crusty exterior.

Ken is lovingly survived by his mother, Kathleen L. McNerney; his son Nicolas McNerney (and Jennifer Bergeron); the love of his life, Becky McNerney; his siblings Edward L. McNerney, Jr. (and wife Laurie) and Terri Ann Ricker; a grandson, Eriq McNerney; great-grandchildren Mila and Sylas; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Edward L. McNerney, Sr., and brother Larry McNerney.

Following Ken’s wishes, there will be no service. Well-wishers are encouraged to write a farewell note on a beer can and drink it in his honor, or alternatively on the funeral home’s website’s guestbook.
