Salvatore Sabella, age 93, passed away peacefully in Florida on Saturday April 23rd. Born and raised in Boston’s North End he was the son of the late Stephen and Lucia (Graffeo) Sabella. After finishing the 8th grade at St John’s School in the North End, he went to work as a fisherman sailing from the Boston Fish Pier. As the Boston fishing fleet began to down size, he worked as a fish cutter with Seaside Fisheries. His career in the fishing industry spanned over 40 years. A long-time North Ender, Salvatore lived in the West End before settling in Medford where he and his late beloved wife Teresa raised their family. Sal enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He and Teresa wintered in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for 25 years. They enjoyed a vibrant social life with dinner partied, card games or just passing time playing cribbage. A life-long Red Sox Fan, Salvatore was at his happiest spending time with his dear family.
The beloved husband of the late Teresa (Moschella) Sabella who passed away in 2016, Salvatore was the devoted father of Diana Sabella of Boston, Stephen Sabella and his wife Sheralie of Micco, Fla., Lucille Mello and her husband William of Medford, Terri-Marie Assous and her husband Andre of West Newbury, and the late Michael Sabella. He was a loving grandfather to Michael Sabella and his wife Jenni, Hope Mello, Christopher Sabella and Joy Assous. He was a loving great-grandfather to Ryne-Anne Sabella and Teresa Sabella.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 3rd at 11:30 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford. The procession will gather at the funeral home at 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford on Monday 4- 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
