DUDLEY – Russell L. Siegmund, 103, died Wednesday, April 27, 2022 in the Jewish Health Care Center, Worcester, after a short illness. His wife of 46 years, Sophie J. (Zacek) Siegmund, died in 1985.
He leaves a daughter, Jean A. Peck of Charlton; 3 grandchildren, Jodi L. Osowski and her husband Jeffrey of Bradford, VT, and twins Derek R. Peck of Webster and Jason D. Peck of Dudley; 4 great-grandchildren, Meagan, Jocelyn, Finn and Willow; a sister, Norma Beauchesne of Webster; a sister-in-law and friend, Josephine Zacek; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Paul, Fred, Elmer, Donald and Stuart Siegmund.
He was born on December 24, 1918 in Webster, one of the seven children of Paul and Sophie (Stein) Siegmund and was a lifelong resident of Dudley.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Siegmund worked in several shoe manufacturing companies including Bates Shoe in Webster before retiring in 1986.
He was a member of Saint Andrew Bobola Church.
Russell was a self-taught man who could repair or make anything he needed. He loved watching all sports, but most enjoyed watching when his grandchildren participated in their sports. He was an avid fan of the UConn girls basketball teams. He loved watching and playing golf and could boast of two holes in one. Russ had a quick dry sense of humor, was protective and loved his family, enjoyed easy listening music, old westerns movies/tv shows, and polka shows.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, May 10, from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide military honors. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM Tuesday morning in the funeral home, prior to the Mass.
